Chandigarh, Feb 20 (IANS) The city’s annual Rose Festival began at the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden here Friday though many of the rose beds looked shorn of flowers thanks to Cupid-struck youth who plucked roses during Valentine’s Day last week.
The Rose Festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors during the three-day event - many to see the roses in bloom but the majority to enjoy the festivities.

The festival was Friday formally inaugurated by Punjab Governor and Union Territory (UT) Administrator S.F. Rodrigues.

The Rose Garden welcomed visitors with a flower-bedecked tunnel and flower exhibits.

Over 200 artistes from across the country will perform song and dance items during the fest.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s official residence here was among the winners of the best gardens category in this city which is otherwise also famous for its gardens and green belts.

Officials said that the rush of visitors would be much more over the weekend.
