Chandigarh, May 18 (IANS) The Chandigarh police Sunday evening started questioning a property dealer after his young wife was found murdered in their home here late Saturday night. The questioning of Anuradha’s husband, Baljinder Singh, started after the servant whom the police earlier suspected for the murder was found dead near Ropar town in Punjab, 40 km from here.
The police were looking for Vijay Kumar alias Nikku, a domestic help working for the couple for over five years, as he was missing from the home after the murder. His motorcycle was also missing.
Anuradha, 33, was found dead with her throat slit at their home in Sector 38-west. Her two children were found locked in another room.
The house was ransacked. The police do not rule out robbery as the motive behind the crime.
“We were earlier looking for Nikku, but we were later informed by the Punjab police that his body was found near Ropar,” station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Shukla said.
Baljinder Singh was partying at a discotheque when the incident occurred. He came to know about his wife’s murder well past midnight.
A guard of the locality told the police that he saw the servant leaving the premises after midnight with two people on his motorcycle, which the Singh family had recently bought for him.
“The servant told me he was going with friends and would return after some time,” the guard told the police.
The Chandigarh police were also investigating the recovery of the body of a young woman from Khuda Lahora village here.
The body remains unidentified. Police officials said it appeared to have been dumped from a vehicle.
