Chambal dacoit shot dead in Uttar Pradesh
March 16th, 2011 - 12:31 pm ICT by IANSAgra, March 16 (IANS) A dreaded Chambal dacoit who carried a reward of Rs.50,000 for his capture has been shot dead in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Vishnu Parihar, 28, was killed in a gun battle with police Tuesday in the Mansukhpura area of Agra district. Two of his gang members escaped.
Parihar was wanted in over half a dozen cases of murder, abduction and loot.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Aseem Arun told reporters that the dacoit was on the run after police intensified search for his capture. He came into focus in the recent past after he abducted two farmers.
Dharmendra Singh, the station house officer of Mansukhpura, got a tip-off about the presence of the Vishnu Parihar gang in the area, police said.
A police team promptly surrounded their hideout and in the ensuing gun battle Parihar was killed.
