Chain snatcher shot dead in Noida, accomplice escapes
January 27th, 2011 - 10:50 pm ICT by IANSNoida, Jan 27 (IANS) Two men who tried to flee after snatching a woman’s gold chain were chased by the police in Sector-82 area of the city Thursday, leading to the death of one of them in the ensuing gunfight. His accomplice, however, escaped by snatching the police team’s motorcycle.According to the police, the duo snatched the woman’s gold chain near Geja village, after which an eyewitness rushed to constable Subhash and home guard Arun, who were patrolling the area on a motorbike.
The criminals fired at them when they approached, and the police team retaliated.
The home guard and one of the criminals were injured.
“The home guard and the criminal were rushed to the government hospital, where the criminal was declared brought dead. The condition of home guard is stable,” Superintendent of Police (city) H.N. Singh said.
The other criminal managed to escape by snatching the police motorcycle, he said.
“The deceased has been identified as Ashok Yadav, 28,” Singh added.
