Central team to assess Cyclone Thane’s impact
January 6th, 2012 - 12:18 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS) The government Thursday constituted an inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the wake of last month’s Cyclone Thane in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.
The team will visit the affected areas shortly and hold talks with the governments of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, an official statement said.
The team, led by an official of the home ministry, has representatives from the ministries and departments of agriculture, animal husbandry and dairying (fisheries), drinking water, department of expenditure, health, power, road transport and highways, rural development, water resources and the Planning Commission.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will also be represented in the team, the statement said.
