January 6th, 2012 - 11:21 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 6 (IANS) More than 50 Delhi markets would soon be brought under closed circuit television camera (CCTV) surveillance to combat terrorism, Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said Friday.
Addressing the annual press conference of Delhi Police, Gupta said that under Phase I, 26 markets and 5 border posts would be placed under surveillance while CCTVs would be installed in 28 markets and 10 border check posts under Phase II.
“All our police stations and other offices in 243 locations are already connected courtesy the cyber highway which is also the backbone for data, voice and video communications,” he said.
Elaborating on further use of technology by Delhi Police, Gupta said that the integrated Command Control Coordination and Communication Centre (C4i) provides the force with real time situation awareness of incidents, activities and traffic in various parts of Delhi.
“We have installed the Automated Finger and Palmprint Identification System (AFPIS) in six courts and all police stations in the capital. It helps in inkless and paperless data capturing and matching of finger and palm prints.”
