New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) Much before Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal aired his views, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had plans to make Class 10 board exams optional, parliament was told Monday.
The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) - 2005 has recommended that the board should consider, as a long term measure, making the class 10 examination optional, thus permitting students to continue in the same school, Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) D. Purandeswari told the Lok Sabha.

The NCF has also recommended for an internal school exam instead of the board examination.

“CBSE has plans to introduce grading system in Class 10 examination and to make Class 10 examination optional for students continuing to study in the same school,” Purandeswari said in a written reply.

Currently, the CBSE has over 10,000 schools under its jurisdiction and the board has received 2,250 applications for fresh affiliations.
