CBI questions high court judge

Chandigarh, Sep 23 (IANS) A special team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned one of the two women judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court whose names figured in the cash-for-judges scam here last month.The CBI officials questioned Justice Nirmaljit Kaur at her residence in Sector 11 Monday evening, CBI sources confirmed here Tuesday.

Kaur was the first judge at whose residence a packet containing Rs 1.5 million in cash was delivered by the assistant of Haryana’s former additional advocate general Sanjeev Bansal Aug 13.

She informed the local police about the cash delivered to her which Bansal later claimed was delivered mistakenly.

The CBI sources said that Kaur was questioned by CBI officials for 30 minutes. NO details of the questioning were available.

The CBI team is likely to question the second judge, Justice Nirmal Yadav, in the next few days.

The sources said that Yadav will be questioned only after interrogation of Delhi-based hotelier Ravinder Singh, who is also a prime accused in the scam, is completed.

Yadav, according to police investigation, got another packet of Rs.1.5 million through Bansal and property dealer Rajeev Gupta on instructions from Ravinder Singh for a land deal in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.

Singh, Bansal and Gupta have already been arrested in the case.

The CBI had sought permission from the high court to question the two judges.
