CBI launches anti-corruption branch at Port Blair
January 15th, 2009 - 1:19 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday inaugurated an anti-corruption branch at Port Blair to speed up crime investigation in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.Earlier, a CBI unit at Port Blair with territorial jurisdiction over the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands was functioning under the supervision of a superintendent of police of the anti-corruption branch at Kolkata.
“The movement of investigating and supervisory officers were both time consuming and expensive. A need was felt to reduce the time taken in decision making in order to finalise the cases within the stipulated timeframe. Therefore, it was decided to upgrade the unit at Port Blair into a full-fledged branch under the restructuring plan of CBI,” a statement issued here said.
The branch was inaugurated by CBI Director of Prosecution S.K. Sharma.
