CBI books former railway official for corruption

Mumbai, March 2 (IANS) A former police officer, who served as the chief security officer in Western Railway, has been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for having assets beyond his known sources of income, an official said here Wednesday.

Cases were lodged against Lalit Kumar Sinha, former inspector general of police and ex-chief security commissioner of Western Railway, after multiple raids in Mumbai, New Delhi and Patna, A CBI official said.

The CBI found five properties belonging to Sinha and his family members in Mira Road suburb of Thane, Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Mayur Vihar in New Delhi and Danapur and Kankad Baug areas of Patna.

The agency has also found and sealed two bank lockers of the accused at Patna that contained 62 gold necklaces and other gold ornaments.

Besides, the CBI has frozen five bank accounts in the name of Sinha and his family members.

Of these, one bank account showed a balance of over Rs.2.17 million, the official added.
