December 17th, 2009 - 11:08 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against senior Indian Administration Service (IAS) officer and former personal assistant of ailing Congress leader Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi for amassing assets beyond his income, an official said Thursday.
The disproportionate-to-income assets case was registered against Manoj Kumar Aggarwal, a 1990 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre. Aggarwal is at present serving in the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) as Commissioner for Land and Disposal.
“We have registered a case against Aggarwal on the allegation that he has amassed huge assets in his name, in the name of his family members which are disproportionate to his known sources of income,” a CBI spokesman said here.
“The allegations are that he amassed assets when he was serving as personal assistant to Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi during the latter’s stint as Information and Broadcasting minister and also as the Water Resource Minister,” the CBI official added.
The official refused to comment whether Dasmunshi, who is in hospital for the past many months, was aware of Aggarwal’s amassing wealth.
The CBI said it has conducted searches at Aggarwal’s four places in capital, two in Ghaziabad and two places in Mathura.
“It has been found that he was in possession of three plots in Dwarka, one in Gurgaon and one in Greater Noida. Three plots have also been found in Ghaziabad. We have also recovered Rs.5 million cash and his five bank lockers are yet to be opened,” the officer said.
“We have also found a large number of incriminating documents relating to investment in stocks and hares, investment in an education and welfare society, and fixed deposit in the banks,” the official added.
