CBI asked to submit Bofors scam accused Win Chadha’s papers
April 15th, 2011 - 10:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 15 (IANS) A Delhi court Friday directed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to place all the documents related to Win Chadha, one of the key accused in the Bofors payoff scam, before the court.
Admitting a plea filed by Chadha’s son, Hersh Washesher Chadha, seeking his father’s papers, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Vinod Yadav ordered: “CBI to place before the court the sought papers belonging to late Win Chadha,” and fixed May 10 for the next hearing.
Chadha’s son had last week approached the CMM’s court, seeking release of documents related to his father’s Swiss bank accounts on the grounds that there were no criminal proceedings pending in the case against any accused after the court March 4 accepted CBI’s plea to withdraw the case against Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi.
Win Chadha died on October 24, 2001, following which the criminal proceedings against him had abated.
“It is, therefore, most respectfully prayed that this court may kindly be pleased to direct CBI to release the documents/articles mentioned in the seizure memo dated May 1, 1997, to the applicant or the applicant’s authorised representative,” Chadha’s son said.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Agarwal filed a plea in the same court opposing the application of Chadha’s son, contending the documents should not be released as he (Agarwal) would soon approach a superior court challenging the March 4 discharge of Quattrocchi by the CMM’s court.
