Cash firm staffer held for stealing from ATMs
September 1st, 2011 - 10:58 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) An employee of a private company engaged by ICICI Bank to load cash in its ATMs has been arrested for stealing Rs.8.24 lakh here, police said Thursday.
Kuldeep Gupta, a Delhi University graduate in his late 20s, was arrested from Sriniwaspuri in south Delhi Wednesday.
Police said J.S. Sekhon, manager operations of Brinks Arya India Pvt. Ltd, registered a complaint in June that cash to the tune of Rs.8.24 lakh was stolen from various ATM machines of ICICI Bank in the last few months.
Several employees of Brinks Arya were interrogated after the complaint, police said.
“We found that Gupta, who had the combination number for opening the ATM machines, stole money in instalments,” a police officer said.
Gupta told the police that he had spent more than Rs.5 lakh of the stolen cash. The remaining sum of Rs.3.07 lakh has been recovered.
