Car mows down pedestrian, two suffer burns

New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) In a freak accident, two people received critical burn injuries when their car crushed a pedestrian to death, smashed into a tree and caught fire in southwest Delhi Saturday, police said. Mitlesh, a driver with an entertainment company, was going to drop another employee Kalim, 25, to his Palam Vihar house when his car hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road near Rao Tula Ram Marg around 4.30 a.m.

As the Maruti Versa car was travelling at high speed, it hit a tree and caught fire. Mitlesh and Kalim, trapped inside the car, received burn critical injuries.

“Two security men, who happened to be nearby, rushed and rescued them from the car. They were admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital, where they are recovering,” a police official said.

A case of rash and negligent driving was registered at the Delhi Cantonment police station.
