Car catches fire on Akbar Road
November 21st, 2011 - 9:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) A car caught fire on the Akbar Road in the high security central Delhi area Monday, police said. The driver escaped unhurt.
The Hyundai Accent suddenly caught fire at 12 Akbar Road around 3 p.m. Monday causing traffic disruption for almost 20 minutes in the area.
The driver of the car, Kranti Prasad, was on his way to south Delhi when he saw smoke suddenly coming out from under the car’s bonet.
“He stopped to check it near the Congress party headquarters, when all of a sudden, flames engulfed the car,” said a senior police officer, adding that the car caught fire as the engine got overheated.
“We received a call at 3.26 p.m. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and doused the flames,” said a fire official.
