New Delhi, March 29 (IANS) A diamond merchant and his wife were robbed of cash and jewellery worth Rs.6 lakh by five car-borne armed men in southwest Delhi, police said Monday.
The heist took place around 11 p.m. Sunday at Naraina flyover when Deepak Batra was returning home to Kirti Nagar area with his wife Medha after attending a party at a five-star hotel.

“The robbers, who were in a black car, waylaid them. When Batra stopped his car, the robbers at gunpoint asked them to part with jewellery they were wearing and cash. They handed it over to them after which the robbers fled,” a senior police officer said.

The robbers also damaged the keys of Batra’s car before fleeing. After this, Batra raised an alarm and with help of some passerby informed the police.

“A message was sent about the incident and officers were directed to undertake strict patrolling and conduct checking. After nearly 30 minutes, we got a call about a black car ramming into a divider near Inderlok Metro station,” the officer added.

“When we reached the spot, the car was found abandoned. Investigations revealed that the car was the same one which was used in robbing Batra and his wife,” the officer said.

“The car had different registration numbers in front and the rear. Two knives, a country made pistol, five helmets and a bottle of acid were recovered from inside the car. It seems they were planning to rob a few more people. Efforts are on to nab them,” the officer said.
