Baghdad, May 4 (IANS) Nine people were killed and 30 others were injured in a car bomb attack in the Iraqi capital Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

Several cars and shops were also damaged in the blast in Baghdad’s Doura district. Police cordoned off the area.

“Our latest report is nine killed and 30 wounded,” a police official told Xinhua requesting anonymity.

Sporadic bomb attacks continue in the Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease of violence over the last three years.

The attacks underscore the challenges the Iraqi security forces are facing as they struggle to restore normalcy in Iraqi cities before the departure of the US forces from the country.
