Captaincy not my cup of tea, says MisbahSeptember 2nd, 2008 - 8:48 pm ICT by IANS
Karachi, Sep 2 (IANS) Misbah-ul-Haq may be widely tipped to take over as the next Pakistan captain, but the middle-order batsman says he has no desire for what is considered to be one of the toughest jobs in international cricket. The prolific batsman, who returned to international cricket putting up a brilliant performance in last September’s World Twenty20 Championship in South Africa, says that he is just happy being part of the team.
“What I believe is that captaincy brings extra load of responsibility and I am enjoying my present status as a senior batsman and vice-captain which is enough for me,” Misbah said Tuesday.
Reports in Pakistani media in recent days suggest that a new Pakistan Cricket Board set-up, which is expected to take over within the next few days, will remove Shoaib Malik as the Pakistan captain. Malik has often been criticised as a weak captain.
Former Pakistan cricketers have called for a change in leadership, and some of them have favoured Misbah as the next skipper.
Misbah said he is currently focused on his batting and is looking forward to a proposed tri-series in South Africa and more importantly the home series against India next January.
