Capital takes first step towards safeguarding CWG legacy
October 28th, 2010 - 8:57 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS) The Delhi government Thursday constituted a committee headed by Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta for upkeep and maintenance of stadia, foot overbridge and parking facility near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, street-lighting fixtures and other infrastructure created during the Commonwealth Games.
“The committee will regularly monitor the situation of all infrastructure on monthly basis,” Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.
The Delhi government’s public works department (PWD) was involved in the construction of flyovers, roads and also beautification of the structures ahead of the Oct 3-14 Games.
The chief secretary will take up issues of cleanliness and security of the Games-related infrastructure with the Delhi Police and other authorities, Dikshit said.
She asked the agencies to undertake necessary repairs of the damaged infrastructure.
Earlier Thursday, 1,600 privately run Blueline buses went off the capital’s roads following a Delhi government notification.
These buses, mainly from New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas, were taken off the roads ahead of the Games.
As per the city government’s decision, the rest of the 800 Blueline buses will be pushed off Delhi roads by Dec 14.
