Bharatiya Janata Party Chandigarh, Oct 11 (IANS) Campaigning for the by-election to the Hisar Lok Sabha seat ended Tuesday evening at 5 p.m.

Polling will take place Thursday and the counting of votes on Oct 17.

The three main hopefuls for the seat are Kuldeep Bishnoi of the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC), the son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal whose death led to the seat falling vacant in June this year, Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD’s) Ajay Chautala, the son of former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, and three-time former MP Jai Prakash of the Congress.

Bishnoi has the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for this election. Though the ruling Congress is focussing on growth and development, Team Anna’s campaign against them has put the party in a spot of bother.

Earlier Tuesday, INLD held a massive rally in Hisar, which was attended by hundreds of people and led to traffic jams at various places.

Addressing the rally, Ajay Chautala said: “Congress leaders are indulging in corruption at both centre and state levels. They are the examples of poor governance and Haryana’s people want a positive change. In place of state’s growth, Congress has provided a secure environment for the flourishing of corruption and crime.”

INLD supremo Om Prakash chautala slammed the rival political parties for canvassing on caste and communal lines.

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader A.B. Bardhan and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu also arrived in Hisar to support INLD.
