Cabinet expected to meet on minority reservation
December 22nd, 2011 - 6:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) The union cabinet is expected to meet Thursday evening to consider four percent quota for minorities within the larger 27 percent quota for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in central government jobs and educational institutions.
The move comes ahead of assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and four other states.
Sources said the note prepared for the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs by the ministry of minority affairs says that reservation in government jobs and admission to central educational institutions for minorities could be carried out through an executive order and be effective from Jan 1 next year.
