Cabinet approves India-Brazil extradition treaty

New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) The cabinet Thursday approved the signing of an extradition treaty between India and Brazil and authorised its ratification. “The treaty was signed April 15. It would provide a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists, economic offenders, and other criminals from and to Brazil,” Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said after a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

India has extradition treaties with upwards of 20 countries including the US, Britain, Germany, Canada, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
