Businessman shot during snatching bid
June 30th, 2011 - 11:59 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 30 (IANS) A businessman was shot as he tried to resist a snatching bid near a Metro station in north Delhi, police said Thursday. His condition is still critical.
Pravin Nagpal, 56, a resident of West Punjabi Bagh in west Delhi, was shot twice near Tis Hazari Metro Station around 8.10 p.m Wednesday when he was on his way home.
Police said a man standing on the road fired two bullets at Nagpal after failing to snatch his bag. “One bullet fired at the back of the victim came out from the chest. Another boy on bike helped the assailant to escape from that place,” said a police officer.
Nagpal, though injured, informed his relative about the incident and then Central Industrial Security Force personnel on duty took him to the St Stephen Hospital and informed police as well, said his brother-in-law Jatin Chhabra.
“He (Nagpal) was operated on for four hours but still in a critical situation. He is admitted in the intensive intensive care unit and will be on ventilator for 4-5 days and then antibiotics will be given,” said Rajesh Sharma, a doctor at St. Stephen’s Hospital.
Nagpal is a businessman and runs a dry fruits shop, the police officer said.
