New Delhi, March 12 (IANS) Eight armed men robbed a businessman and his family of cash and jewellery worth Rs.2 million at gunpoint in north-east Delhi, the police said Thursday.
The robbers struck around 9.00 p.m. Wednesday in Yamuna Vihar area of north-east Delhi.
“The incident took place last night (Wednesday). The victim, Dilshad Ali, who is an iron and steel dealer, was resting after dinner with his wife Farhana, two kids and mother-in-law Zarina Begum. At that time, the masked men, who were armed, barged into their house,” a senior police officer said.
“Ali told the police that his wife was playing with their baby, when the four men broke into their house. One of them pointed a gun towards his elder son while another took their baby and asked for the almirah keys,” the police officer added.
“The victim revealed that when he refused to hand over the keys, they threatened to kill his children. Four other men also entered the house and asked them to stay quiet,” the police officer said.
“They took away gold worth Rs.500,000 and Rs.1.5 million in cash. They threatened the family not to inform the police and fled,” the police officer said.
The victim’s family said that as soon as the robbers left they raised an alarm and their neighbours called the police.
A case has been registered and a search has been launched to nab the culprits, the police said.
