- New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) Former US president George W. Bush Saturday supported India’s claim for a seat in the UN Security Council as the country had arrived as “a strong democratic country”.
He said at the HT Leadership Summit here: “We must see the possibility of a seat for India in the United Nations Security Council.”
“India has arrived as a strong democratic country in the world. It is a tolerant, peaceful and multi-religious democracy.”
Stating that India had an important role to play in global affairs, the former president said: “India has a leadership role in climate change, to cut greenhouse emissions without hindering economic growth.”
Bush, who visited India in 2006 when the two sides chartered out the road map for further strengthening Indo-US strategic partnership, said he comes to India as a “pilgrim” and is an “admirer” of the country.
