Bangkok, November 23 (PRD), The President of the Bus Operators Association of Thailand, Mrs. Suchinda Cherdchai (สุจินดา เชิดชัย), submitted a document to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Sansern Wongcha-um (สุจินดา เชิดชัย), requesting for the public bus fares to be raised by nine satang per kilometer, starting from January 16th next year. In addition, the association also wants to lower the number of bus trips by 30 percent and bring down the disciplinary fees by 30 percent as well.

Mr. Sansern received the letter from Mrs. Suchinda and says relevant units, including the Department of Land Transport and the Transport Company Limited, will consider their requests. He says he will hold a meeting to seek concrete solutions soon.

In the meantime, The Director-General of the Land Transport Department, Mr. Silpa-chai Jarukasemratana (ศิลปชัย จารุเกษมวัฒนะ), says the Department of Land Transport has not considered raising the public bus fares, as the department previously allowed the fares to be increased by three satang per kilometer.
