Berlin, Oct 14 (IANS) Coach Thorsten Fink has joined Bundesliga football club Hamburger SV with immediate effect.

After a long back and forth, Hamburg was able to sign Fink for a three-year term until 2014. Fink moved from FC Basel.

After the dismissal of Michael Oenning mid-September, Rodolfo Cardoso had initially taken the team, but the Argentine had not the necessary coach license to be allowed to permanently to train a Bundesliga club.

“Thorsten Fink was my desired coach. He fits to Hamburger SV and to our philosophy. He will make our team better,” Hamburg sports director Frank Arnesen was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Since 2009 Fink coached Swiss club FC Basel to win the Swiss cup once and twice the Swiss championship. A short while ago Basel was able to held Manchester United to a 3-3 at Champions League group stage.

The 43-year-old Fink will start team training Monday. His goal will be to push struggling Hamburg from the bottom of Bundesliga standings.
