‘Buddhadeb’ threatens voters, complaint lodged (Second Lead)
April 19th, 2011 - 12:09 am ICT by IANSKolkata, April 18 (IANS) A complaint has been filed with the election authorities that a caller identifying himself as West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is threatening some people in his constituency, Jadavpore, a senior official said Monday.
“Bhattacharjee’s election agent and former city mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya filed a complaint that an unknown person had made calls to several persons in Jadavpur constituency. The calls came from a ten-digit number - 1166041000,” said state chief electoral officer Sunil Kumar Gupta.
“The caller claimed himself as the chief minister and asked the people to carry out his orders. The calls were purportedly made to malign the chief minister’s image in the midst of the Assembly polls, Bhattacharya said in his complaint,” said Gupta.
“We have informed the nodal officer and state Additional Director General (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purokayastha to look into the matter,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bikash Bhattacharya told IANS: “I have lodged the complaint with the CEO’s office. We want a proper investigation should be initiated into the matter and the unknown caller, who is tarnishing the CM’s image, should be identified and punished.”
Bhattacharjee is a candidate from Jadavpur constituency in South 24-Parganas district which will go to the polls April 27.
