Buddha Smriti Park ready for inauguration Thursday
May 26th, 2010 - 6:07 pm ICT by IANSPatna, May 26 (IANS) The Buddha Smriti Park is ready for inauguration here by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Thursday, on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
The inauguration will be a gala international event attended by delegations from four predominantly Buddhist countries — Sri Lanka, Burma, Japan and Thailand, officials in the Chief Minister’s Office said.
The urns of Lord Buddha — consecrated Buddha statuettes — will be kept at the memorial park by the Dalai Lama. He would also plant saplings of the tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.
The park is located near the Patna railway junction and is spread over 22 acres of prime land located in the heart of the city. The project is estimated to have cost more than Rs.125 crore.
