BSP member’s car fired upon, three assailants killed

Lucknow, July 30(IANS) A Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) member was injured Wednesday evening when gunmen opened fire at his car in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, killing his driver. While one of the attackers was killed in return fire, the other two assailants fell to police when they tried to escape. Dharmendra Singh, the BSP village panchayat member, was attacked around 6 p.m. in the city’s Sigra locality, a police official said.

“Dharmendra was going in a Safari car, along with his associates when three armed criminals opened fire at the vehicle. The occupants of the car also opened fire and one of the assailants, Rakesh Yadav, was killed,” Senior Superintendent of Police (Varanasi) Vijay Prakash told IANS.

While Dharmendra was injured and admitted to hospital, his driver Pramod Yadav was killed, the official said.

The police then nabbed the other two attackers. “While being taken to the police station, they tried to escape and the police were forced to open fire on them” Prakash said. Both were killed.
