BSP legislator’s vehicle mows down man

Bahujan Samaj PartyLucknow, Sep 26 (IANS) A Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator’s car knocked down a motorcycle Friday, killing a man and critically injuring another in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district, police said.The police were not sure whether the legislator, Bhagwan Pathak, was in the car when the accident took place but an FIR against him has been filed on the complaint of the victim’s family members.

The incident occurred in Badlapur village in Jaunpur at around 2 p.m. when the legislator’s car hit a father and son travelling on a motorcycle.

“The deceased, Sunil Kumar, and his father Amar Singh, both teachers, were returning to their house when a blue beacon car hit them from behind,” Inspector R.V. Azad of Badlapur police station told IANS.

While Sunil died on the spot, Singh has been admitted to hospital and is said to be critical, he said.

“The family members lodged a complaint after onlookers claimed it was Pathak’s vehicle,” Azad said.

The witnesses also provided the car’s registration number and it turned out to be the legislator’s.

Pathak represents the Sikandarpur seat of Jaunpur. He could not be contacted for comment.
