Etawah, Jan 27 (IANS) A local court here Thursday directed the district police to register criminal cases against five people, including a ruling Bahujan Samaj Party legislator, for their involvement in the rape of a school teacher followed by suicide of her husband.Among others to be booked in the case were two local police subinspectors, the principal of a local school and the rape victim’s father-in-law and sister-in-law.
While directing the Etawah police to book MLA Shiv Pratap Yadav for criminal conspiracy under section 120 B of IPC, Chief Judicial Magistrate Zaigabuddin charged two local police subinspectors Rakesh Bharti and Gur Prasad Bharti with abetment to commit suicide.
While school principal Vinod Awasthi was charged for raping his school teacher Sonam, her father-in-law Onkar Nath and sister-in-law Kumari Soni were booked for abetting the rape as well as her husband Ganesh Shankar’s suicide.
Interestingly, the state government had given a clean chit to the ruling party MLA. A top police officer had specially held a press conference in Lucknow last week to claim that the MLA had nothing whatsoever to do with the rape or suicide.
However, the chief judicial magistrate saw reason to get an FIR lodged against him too.
According to the complaint, sought to be repeatedly lodged by Sonam, she was raped by her school principal Vinod Awasthi. She accused her deceased husband, father-in-law as well as sister-in-law of literally forcing her into the lecherous principal’s trap. She also sought to point out how the police not only ignored her complaints but also arrested her and her brothers for abetting her husband Gahesh Shankar’s suicide.
Even the district police chief did not pay any heed to her complaint, following which she moved a petition before the local court which took serious note of the whole case and ordered action.
