BSNL to open mobile lines tender Wednesday

New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS) The state-owned telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) announced Tuesday that it will open Wednesday the tender for its 93 million GSM lines.The county’s leading IT services providers Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys Technologies and Satyam Computers have bid for the $9 billion (Rs.405 billion) contract.

“Of the 93 million lines, 25 percent will be set aside for 3G telephony,” said BSNL chief managing director Kuldeep Goyal.

GSM stands for global system for mobile communications and is the most popular standard for mobile phones around the world.
