Briton held for sexual assault in Beijing
May 10th, 2012 - 6:20 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, May 10 (IANS) A Briton has been detained in the Chinese capital for getting drunk and allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on the side of a road, police said Thursday.
The incident took place in Beijing’s in Xicheng district just before midnight Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
A video of the incident was uploaded to video-sharing site youku.com by an internet user named “ajianmeilizuofang”. It showed a foreign national in sportswear standing over a Chinese woman lying on a roadside flowerbed with her pants around her knees.
The woman can be heard crying and shouting “Help! I don’t know him,” followed by a Chinese man fighting with the foreigner, who is later seen lying in the middle of the street.
Police arrived soon after the fight began.
Police said the man was a British national in China with a tourist visa. He was intoxicated on the night of the incident.
The video has been watched over 3.5 million times and received 50,000 comments till Thursday.
“I was about to get off work when I heard someone yelling for help, so I went to check what happened with two other passersby,” wrote ajianmeilizuofang.
“Being drunk is not an excuse for committing crimes,” another net user commented.
