London, July 13 (IANS) A former chief of Britain’s Scotland Yard will sue Rupert Murdoch’s media empire after the News of the World allegedly hacked his phone during a sensitive murder inquiry, a media report said.

Former Detective Superintendent Dave Cook claims he was “shadowed” by journalists when he was probing the axe murder of private eye Daniel Morgan, the Daily Express reported.

Cook’s wife Jacqui Hames - a presenter on TV programme Crimewatch - also claims she was followed.

Morgan was axed to death in a London car park in 1987.

The alleged following of Cook took place in 2002 when he took charge of a re-investigation.
