British high commissioner visits CWG village
September 24th, 2010 - 10:43 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS) British High Commissioner Richard Stagg visited the Commonwealth Games Village along with the team members Friday when England sent its first batch of 22 athletes comprising hockey and lawn bowl teams.
The high commissioner went to the athletes village during the day, said an official in the British High Commission.
“It was not an assessment of the facilities. He wanted to see how the (English) officials are getting on,” said the high commission official. Stagg also met Dalbir Singh, the mayor of the Commonwealth Games Village.
The English team had checked-in at city hotels on arrival but are expected to start living in the Commonwealth Games Village from next week.
Interestingly, the official car of the high commissioner was not allowed inside the village as the driver did not have the requisite security pass.
According to an official, this did demonstrate that there was strict security at the village.
On Saturday, the Commonwealth Games organising committee has invited diplomats of participating nations to inspect the facilities at the village.
