Britain to double aid to Bangladesh: Envoy
October 3rd, 2011 - 11:22 pm ICT by IANSDhaka, Oct 3 (IANS) Britain will double its assistance to Bangladesh in the next four years and would continue to be the largest bilateral donor to the south Asian country, said the newly-appointed British envoy to Bangladesh Monday.
Addressing a press conference, British High Commissioner Robert Willington Gibson said his country would provide all-out support to Bangladesh to make the “education for all” programme a success ensuring every child’s enrollment at primary schools, reported Xinhua.
“Our aim is to help more children to have better education, provide technical skills to young men and women to get employment,” he said.
Gibson, who was earlier in Dhaka as deputy high commissioner between 2002 and 2005, said he was overwhelmed to see the changes that took place in Dhaka’s landscape over the last six years and added that the country’s progress could be hastened through institutionalization.
Britain is now the largest bilateral donor for Bangladesh and is one of the largest investors with around two billion pound sterling-worth projects to date.
