Bring transparency in AIDS programme: Civil society
May 17th, 2011 - 11:05 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 17 (IANS) A civil society delegation which met National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) officials, Tuesday recommended that it put in place a transparent policy framework in planning the fourth phase of India’s AIDS control programme.
The National AIDS Control Programme Phase IV (NACP IV) plan will define the national policy for HIV/AIDS over the next five years.
“The NACP III took a holistic approach to the needs of the HIV positive people. However, it is time NACO brought in more transparency to the policy framework,” Anjali Gopalan, founder of the Naz foundation India, said.
“Regional consultation is something we are focusing on in the next NACP. There is no focus on children for HIV policies,” said Sanghamitra Iyengar, a member of the civil societies’ group.
The groups recommended NACO to stop the closing down of over 100 community care centres for HIV positive people in the country.
