Melbourne, March 7 (IANS) It was meant to be the most memorable day of her life — but it turned out to be the most frightening day for a newly-wedded bride in Australia after her wedding car burst into flames.

She was on her way in the car with her newly-wedded hubby to attend a reception in New South Wales’ Riverina region.

It all happened Saturday afternoon in Albury, a major regional city in the state’s southwest, as the couple’s chauffeur-driven Chevrolet caught fire in Dean Street, AAP reports.

The couple, named by local media as Stephanie and Nathan Suter, married in Albury’s St. Matthew’s Church.

“It happened so fast, I just couldn’t believe it,” Stephanie Suter told the ABC.

“All I remember is basically seeing smoke, then just feeling the heat of the flames and just trying to get out of that car. I was absolutely petrified.

“My husband had to actually pull me out of the car. My hair and dress were actually on fire, she said.

The man suffered burns to his hands and face. Ms. Suter suffered some minor burns to her arms and was treated at the scene for shock, said a NSW Ambulance spokesman.

Unfazed by the narrow escape, the couple are planning to go on their honeymoon in three weeks.
