Brazil rain toll mounts to 110
November 30th, 2008 - 12:37 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Rio de Janeiro, Nov 30 (IANS) At least 110 people have died in weeks of unusually heavy rains in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, EFE reported Sunday.According to rescue teams, mudslides and floodings caused by the rain blamed on the global climate change, have also left around 80,000 people homeless and affected close to 1.5 million.
According to the civil defence department, Ilhota reported the highest number of 37 fatalities followed by Blumenau (24), Gaspar (15), Jaragua do Sul (13), Luis Alves (5) and Rodeio (4).
