Boy’s father moves court over ‘torture’ by school
February 22nd, 2011 - 9:48 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) The Delhi High Court has questioned the central and Delhi governments, Delhi Police and a D.A.V. public school in south Delhi on a man’s complaint that the school authorities tortured his son and did not allow him to attend classes. Justice A.K. Pathak, in a direction delivered Monday, asked all the departments to file their replies by March 24.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Amodh Shastri whose teenaged son has been studying in the school at Jasola Vihar for about nine years.
“My son is being discriminated against by the school authorities on one ground or the other without giving any valid reason. He is being subjected to several kinds of mental and physical torture,” he said in the petition.
“My child has become so traumatized that he is afraid of going to school,” the petitioner said.
He referred to an incident in July 2010 when it was alleged by the school authorities that he placed a used condom on the floor.
The petition said that the boy was prevented from entering his class and was harassed not only by students but also by teachers.
“Several representations have been made to the school authorities for an immediate stop to the discrimination but they have not done anything,” said the petition.
He also approached the police for immediate intervention but they also did not help.
