Boy’s death sparks violence
June 9th, 2011 - 4:41 pm ICT by IANSMaharajganj (Uttar Pradesh), June 9 (IANS) Irate residents clashed with the police, pelted stones and damaged several vehicles after a child was mowed down by a speeding bus in Maharajganj district Thursday, police said.
Eight-year-old Pinku was run over by a private bus in Nautanwa town in this district. The driver managed to flee after the accident.
Demanding the driver’s arrest, locals clashed with the police and targeted public and private vehicles.
“The protesters turned more violent when we tried to end their demonstration. They calmed down only after senior officers assured them that the driver will be nabbed in the next 48 hours,” police Inspector R.B. Yadav told reporters in Maharajganj, some 300 km from Lucknow.
