Boy killed in playground blast
January 7th, 2011 - 12:07 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Jan 6 (IANS) A seven-year old boy was killed and three of his friends were injured in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district Thursday after a crude bomb exploded in the ground where they were playing, police said.”Sanjib Mondal was rushed to Bhatpara State general hospital where he was declared brought dead. Three of his friends were shifted to R.G. Kar Hospital here in critical conditions,” North 24 Parganas’ police chief Rahul Srivastav said.
According to police, the incident occurred in the evening when the four boys were playing football in a playground at Shyamnagar in Jagaddal police station area.
“One of the boys kicked the ball which rolled down into a pit in one corner of the ground. When Sanjib along with his friends lifted the ball from the pit, the bomb which was placed there, exploded,” said Srivastav.
Police have begun investigations.
