Sonia Gandhi New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) The Congress Monday appointed Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana as the president of state unit, replacing D. Srinivas.

“Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal for appointing Botsa Satyanarayana as the president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect,” Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said in a statement.

The appointment comes amid efforts by the Congress to revitalise party organisation in the state after its demoralising defeat in the byelections to Kadapa parliamentary and Pulivendula assembly seat last month.

Former Congress MP and late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who had floated his own YSR Congress party, won Kadappa Lok Sabha seat by over five lakh votes last month. His mother Y. S. Vijayalakshmi won Pulivendula assembly seats by over 80,000 votes.
