Berlin, Nov 20 (IANS) Defending champions Borussia Dortmund defeated record holder Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Bundesliga football here.
Monchengladbach youngster Marco Reus scored a hat-trick in his side’s 5-0 win over Bremen while Schalke celebrated a 4-0 goal festival to beat underdog Nuremberg in the matches played Saturday.
Struggling Wolfsburg shocked stunner team Hannover 4-1 owing a brace by midfielder Hasan Salihamidzic at the Lower Saxony derby while Cologne versus Mainz was cancelled due to a suicide attempt by one of the referees.
Bundesliga giants Bayern and Dortmund staged a match at high pace with only few goal-scoring scenes. Bayern dominated the first half whilst Dortmund took over at the second half to score the decider through Dortmund top youngster Mario Goetze, who netted the neat 1-0 win in the 65th minute to extend their undefeated string to seven.
Bayern drops points in the title race but they stay on top with 28 points while Dortmund on 26 points are second.
“That was a good and intense game. We had the fortune to make the decider against Bayern,” Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said.
Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes analyzed the third loss of the season: “We unfortunately failed to put up some pressure on Dortmund.”
The scheduled match between Cologne and Mainz was cancelled due to a suicidal attempt by referee Babak Rafati, who was found seriously injured in his hotel room by his linesmen just before the match.
“The referee didn’t turn up. We were unable to find a replacement at a short notice,” Cologne press spokesman Tobias Schmidt said.
