Bombing attempt foiled near Karachi hospital
June 25th, 2011 - 12:51 pm ICT by IANSKarachi, June 25 (IANS) A bombing attempt was foiled near a leading hospital in the Pakistani port city of Karachi with the discovery of a remote-controlled 20-kg explosive, officials said.
The bomb was found and safely defused near the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Friday, the Dawn News reported Saturday.
Officials said the target was apparently hundreds of devotees who converged for Friday prayers at a tented mosque near the hospital staff colony.
A man spotted four youngsters riding away on two motorbikes after placing some “suspicious thing” close to the mosque, the officials said.
He promptly informed hospital officials. Police and a bomb disposal unit were called in and the explosive was found and defused.
