Bomb maker’s plea to sit for engineering exam disallowed
May 6th, 2011 - 5:54 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, May 6 (IANS) A request by a 22-year-old engineering student, accused of making a bomb for a right wing Hindu group, to appear for his college examination has been turned down Friday by a Goa court.
District and Sessions Judge Bimba Thaly disallowed an application filed by Dhananjay Ashtekar, a member of the Sanatan Sanstha (SS) and one of dozen people accused of making an improvised explosive device (IED)- or crude bomb - to be planted on Diwali eve a couple of years back.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is investigating the case, has said that allowing Ashtekar permission to sit for the exams would be tricky and escorting the bombing case accused to a college in Kolhapur in Maharashtra would be difficult.
Two people, both members of the SS, died while the IED they were ferrying accidentally exploded.
Ashtekar had applied for bail from May 9-13 to appear for the exam.
Ashtekar has been accused by the NIA of putting together the IED because of his engineering background.
