September 17th, 2010 - 5:31 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Sep 17 (IANS) Students across Tamil Nadu will be served boiled eggs in the mid-day meal at schools all five days, while vegetarian students will be given bananas.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi Friday signed the order.
Inaugurating the Anna Centenary Library Wednesday, Karunanidhi said the government would provide eggs with noon meals to students on all the five days instead of three days.
According to the state government, the provision would benefit around 5.7 million students and the additional cost involved will be around Rs.125 crore.
Meanwhile, poultry farmers in the state have thanked Karunanidhi for the announcement as it would increase the government’s purchase of eggs from them.
