Bodies of two Indians killed in Dubai fire identified
September 21st, 2008 - 9:02 pm ICT by IANSDubai, Sep 21 (IANS) The Dubai police Sunday handed over to the Indian consulate here the bodies of two of the 10 Indian workers who were killed in a fire at their bachelor accommodation last month.The bodies of Gangaram Palepu, son of Chinnaiah, and of Sanjeev Kokku, son of Thukanna Kokku, were handed over to the Indian authorities after completion of the DNA identification process on them, the Indian consulate said in a statement here.
The 10 Indians and a Bangladeshi were killed in a devastating fire that engulfed a bachelor accommodation, deemed as illegal by authorities here, at the Naif area in Deira locality in the heart of Dubai Aug 26.
The consulate statement said all arrangements were being made to send the two bodies to India along with accompanying relatives.
All expenses in this connection are being arranged by the consulate through the Indian Community Welfare Committee (ICWC).
As for the other eight bodies, the process of identification through DNA tests is still underway.
“As soon as these bodies are handed over after identification, the consulate will make all necessary arrangements to send them too to their families in India,” the consulate statement said.
Most of those victims hailed from Karimnagar district in Andhra Pradesh.
