Boca Juniors hint at signing Maradona as coach
July 16th, 2012 - 7:03 pm ICT by IANSRio de Janeiro, July 16 (IANS) Boca Juniors vice-president Juan Carlos Crespi has revealed club legend Diego Maradona could return to the Argentine outfit as coach.
Maradona was last week sacked as coach of United Arab Emirates side Al Wasl, just 14 months into a two-year contract, reports Xinhua.
“Why couldn’t he be coach of Boca,” Crespi said.
“He is a hero of the club and has coached the national team. Everybody loves him and it’s important that we listen to our fans.”
Boca is currently coached by Julio Cesar Falcioni, who earlier this month led the side to the Copa Libertadores final before losing to Brazil’s Corinthians.
Maradona, 51, scored 35 goals from 70 appearances during two spells at the Buenos Aires club in the 1980s and 1990s.
